As the mobile industry winds down from CES 2012, it barely takes a breath as everyone starts looking toward the Mobile World Congress or MWC that is held every February in Barcelona, Spain. While quad-core processors presented a stronger presence in tablets during CES, they return with a vengeance to smartphones as MWC looms closer.

The sneak peek today revolves around the LG X3 whose market name hasn’t been either determined or leaked yet. But the name is of little import at this point in time. What counts is what the mobile handset brings to and back to the mobile phone docket.

Overview

3D is back! While it took a bit of a back seat of late, LG hasn’t forgotten the success of its Optimus 3D mobiles and reasserts that momentum with the LG X3.

A large display, quad core processing and a really slim waistline are only a few of the things to look forward to when/if this model is formally announced next month.

While there is still so much unknown or unpublished about this smartphone, we’ve pieced together a little bit about it.

Additional comments: Yes, you read correctly: The LG X3 rolls out of the box with Ice Cream Sandwich. The Tegra 3′s quad core design is reputed to boost speeds for 3D and HD viewing demands while extending video play life for the very large battery to up to 12 hours. Remember, though, that it’s not official yet.

Overall opinion: Even with a great deal of this mobile phone left to the imagination, it’s already one to look forward to, and we all hope LG doesn’t leave us without it at the end of the MWC!
